How to Refill a Prescription Online

What this helps with: Using your pharmacy’s own app or website to ask for a refill, so you don’t have to call or wait in line.

This guide is only about the technology steps. Questions about your medicine should always go to your pharmacist or doctor.

Before you start

  • Have your prescription bottle or box nearby. You’ll need the Rx number printed on the label.
  • Know which pharmacy filled it. Use that pharmacy’s own app or website.

The steps

  1. Open your pharmacy’s app or website. Download the app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android), or type the pharmacy’s web address yourself.
    • What you’ll tap: The search box in the app store. Type the pharmacy’s name and check that the app is made by that pharmacy.
  2. Create an account or sign in. You may need your name, birthday, phone number, and an email address. The first time, you may get a code by text to confirm it’s you.
  3. Find the refill button. Look for words like Refill, Prescriptions, or Pharmacy.
    • What you’ll tap: Usually a large button on the main screen.
  4. Enter your Rx number from the label, or choose the medicine from your list if it’s already shown.
  5. Choose pickup or delivery, and choose the store if you pick up.
  6. Check everything and tap Submit (or Request refill).
  7. Watch for a message. Most pharmacies send a text or email when your refill is ready.

If something goes wrong

  • It says “No refills remaining.” The pharmacy usually needs a new prescription from your doctor. Many apps have a button to ask the pharmacy to contact your doctor. Or call the pharmacy.
  • It says it’s “too soon” to refill. Some medicines can only be refilled after a certain date. The app often shows when you can.
  • I can’t sign in. Use Forgot password? in the app, or call the pharmacy. They can help you get into your account.
  • Is this website real? Only use your own pharmacy’s app or the website you know. Be careful with websites that offer medicine without a prescription. The FDA’s BeSafeRx page explains how to spot a safe online pharmacy.

This is general help, not personalized tech support. It is not medical advice. Ask your pharmacist or doctor about your medicines. Every pharmacy’s app is a little different.
