Privacy
Draft. This policy is a draft and is waiting for legal review before launch.
Steady Tap is built to collect as little as possible. We don’t sell or share personal information, and we don’t use advertising trackers or tracking cookies.
Reading the guides
You can read every guide without signing up.
Visitor counts
We count visits with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly service, so we know which guides are helpful. It works like a simple tally:
- No cookies and nothing saved on your device.
- No personal data stored. It records the page you visited, the site that sent you (if any), your browser and screen size, and a rough country or region.
- The country or region is worked out from your internet address (IP address) at the moment of the visit. Your IP address is not stored.
- To avoid counting one person twice, GoatCounter keeps a random code in memory for up to 8 hours. It is not written to disk and can’t be traced back to you.
- We don’t use this to follow you across websites, and we never sell or share it.
Your text-size choice
If you use the text size buttons, your choice is saved only in your own browser so pages stay the size you like.
The newsletter
Our newsletter is sent by Buttondown. When you sign up, Buttondown keeps your email address, the date, and which sign-up box you used (for example “home” or “guide-end”) so we know which ones are helpful. You confirm by email before you get anything. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we never sell or share your address.
The “Ask me anything” helper
- Please don’t share private details. Don’t type passwords, codes, card or bank numbers, or your Social Security number. If the helper spots them, it warns you, and the message is not sent or saved.
- Anonymous question log. To learn which guides to write next, we keep a copy of each question with names, email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses, and long numbers removed first. With it we keep only the date (not the time), which guide matched, and the topic.
- What we never keep: the helper’s answers, your IP address, any account or user ID, or cookies that identify you.
- How long: anonymous questions are deleted automatically after 90 days.
- Where: the helper runs on Netlify. To limit abuse, it briefly counts requests per connection; we don’t store those addresses. Answers come from our guide text. If we turn on AI-written answers, they will use only our guide text.
- The helper gives general tech help only. It isn’t medical, legal, or financial advice, and it isn’t personal tech support.
Tips and affiliate links
- Tips: if you choose to leave a tip, the payment happens on the payment service’s own website, under its privacy policy. We never see your card number. The service tells us the amount and whatever name, email, or message you choose to give it.
- Affiliate links: links marked “Affiliate link” go to a store that may use a cookie to note that you came from Steady Tap. We don’t get your name or what you bought, only a total of sales.
