How to Set Reminders With Your Voice

What this helps with: Asking your phone or smart speaker to remind you of things, like a phone call or an appointment.

With Siri (iPhone)

  1. Wake up Siri. Say “Siri” or “Hey Siri,” or press and hold the side button (or the Home button on older iPhones).
    • What you’ll see: A glowing light around the edge of the screen, or a colorful ball at the bottom.
  2. Say your reminder. For example:
    • “Remind me tomorrow at 3 p.m. to call Tara.”
    • “Remind me to water the plants every Monday at 9 a.m.”
  3. Check it. Siri shows the reminder on screen. It’s saved in the Reminders app.
    • What you’ll tap: Nothing, unless you want to change it. Then open the Reminders app and tap the reminder.

With Google (Android)

  1. Wake up your assistant. Say “Hey Google,” or press and hold the power button or the home button, depending on your phone.
  2. Say your reminder. For example: “Remind me to call Mom at noon tomorrow.”
  3. Check it. Google saves reminders as tasks in Google Tasks. You’ll get a notification when it’s time.

With Alexa (Echo speaker)

  1. Say “Alexa,” then your reminder. For example: “Alexa, remind me to take out the trash at 7 p.m.”
  2. Alexa will say the reminder out loud on that same speaker when it’s time.
  3. To see or change reminders, open the Alexa app on your phone, tap More, then Reminders.

If something goes wrong

  • The assistant didn’t hear me. Speak a little slower, and say the time clearly, like “three p.m.”
  • I didn’t get the reminder. Check that the phone isn’t on silent or Do Not Disturb, and that notifications are allowed for Reminders (iPhone) or the Google app (Android).
  • “Hey Siri” or “Hey Google” doesn’t work. It may be turned off. On iPhone, look in Settings under Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri). On Android, look in the Google app’s settings for Hey Google & Voice Match.
  • I want to delete a reminder. iPhone: in the Reminders app, swipe left on it and tap Delete. Alexa: say “Alexa, delete my reminder.”

This is general help, not personalized tech support. Voice assistant features vary by device, language, and region. Don’t rely on a reminder alone for anything urgent.
