How to Order Groceries Online
What this helps with: Ordering groceries on your phone or computer for delivery or pickup.
Many grocery stores let you shop online and either pick up your bags or have them delivered.
The steps
- Pick your store. Use your regular grocery store’s own app or website, if it has one.
- What you’ll tap: In the App Store or Google Play, search for your store’s name. Check that the app is made by that store.
- Create an account. You’ll enter your name, email, phone number, and address. Choose a strong password.
- Choose delivery or pickup, and pick a time that works for you.
- Add items to your cart. Use the search box to type what you need, like “milk” or “bananas.” Tap Add next to each item.
- What you’ll tap: A button that says Add or shows a + sign.
- Set your substitutions. Many stores ask what to do if an item is out of stock. You can allow a swap or say “no substitute.”
- Review your cart. Check quantities and look at the total, including delivery fees, service fees, and tip.
- Pay and place your order. Paying by credit card gives you the most protection if something goes wrong.
- Watch for messages. The store will text or email you when your order is on its way or ready to pick up.
If something goes wrong
- Something was missing or wrong. Open your order in the app. There’s usually a Report a problem or Help button to ask for a refund.
- The total is higher than I expected. Look for delivery fees, service fees, and tips before you pay. Pickup is often cheaper than delivery.
- I use SNAP/EBT. Many stores accept SNAP online. The USDA keeps a list of stores that accept SNAP online.
- A website asks for payment by gift card or wire transfer. Don’t pay. Real stores don’t ask for that. Only shop with stores you know.

This is general help, not personalized tech support. Steady Tap doesn’t recommend any particular store. Every store’s app is a little different.
